After a life changing traveling experience in Myanmar, Thomas started working as travel consultant in the Dolomites, the place where he was born and where he lives. During this time he worked with people from all over the world who came to visit the Dolomites. His goal has always been to provide the best experiences and to give guests the opportunity to live the authentic local culture and tradition.
To pursue his goal he created Élite Dolomites which is accurate selection of small and quality accommodations, unique, authentic and located in the Dolomite’s territory together with the opportunity to live the unique experience of the tailor made journey.
He is really passionate in Human Sciences and Psychology.
How do the experiences you offer give guests a unique perspective on history, people or culture of your region in Italy?
I was born in Val di Fiemme, one of the valleys that are part of the Dolomite’s territory, which is an idyllic place surrounded by green woodland and beautiful mountains. I started traveling very soon and so I had the chance to visit different places with different cultures, traditions and people but I was always happy to come back, there was something that called me back every time.
One of the most significant experiences I went trough is that call even if I always enjoyed places I’ve visited and most of them have still got a place in my heart. Dolomites become every time more and more beautiful to me: the landscape, the tradition, the culture, the people and lifestyle. So that’s how I discovered the beauty of my native place.
Everything begins in mid 2014 from an unforgettable and profound experience which I lived traveling with a back pack all over Myanmar. Two very intense month of research totally immersed in the local tradition and into Buddhist philosophy that have shaped my view of traveling. A rich experience because authentic in every detail … and so authentic is the key: Élite Dolomites allows guests to live our territory in all its authentic and unique aspects, to stay in touch with local people, our culture and tradition.
The Dolomite mountains are located on a vast territory, part in Trentino province (Italian speaking), part in Südtirol province (German speaking) and part in Veneto region, dived in more than 8 valleys with different dialects, culture and tradition. That is why I started from an accurate selection of small and quality accommodations all over the territory where the owners are able to communicate the values of their job and of their culture which is different for every valley of Dolomites.
All the experiences are by definition unique, tailor made on client’s personality, passion and interest and are very detailed, based on the chosen location and on the opportunities that it offers. Experiences are profound, guests discover the tradition, the culture and the lifestyle of any specific Dolomite’s part that are usually hidden at the normal tourist eye…
Our fist goal is to reach the heart of our clients where the experience will be never forgotten.
How have the experiences that you offer evolved since their inception?
I’ve started Élite Dolomites with the idea of collecting the very best of high quality accommodations all over Dolomites, not just to promote them but to create a unique collection. Sharing the same goal and having a good relationship with the owners were very important fact to succeed.
The first idea was to create together with them unique experiences which were different from one accommodation to the others trough collaborations with local people (chef, guides etc.). From the beginning, thanks to that important know how, the project evolved spontaneously till I decided to create tailor made journeys for clients and for agencies.
The ability to put together and to coordinate the right accommodations with the right experiences made from the right qualified experts is the result of this evolution.
What is one detail of an experience you provide that may go unnoticed by guests, but which you feel is important?
The ability to create great relationship and to make guests feel at home in every second of their journey. I think it is unnoticed because it is foregone, something that people do not ask for because it is always present in every aspect of life but it is also something that will be always more and more important.
What do you wish every guest knew as they consider participating in the experiences you offer?
When people talk about Dolomites they often think about a single mountain
The Dolomites are a mountain range located on a vast territory (15.942 km²), part in Trentino province (Italian speaking), part in Südtirol province (German speaking) and part in Veneto region, dived in more than 8 valleys with different dialects, culture and tradition.
It is important to be aware of that because traveling in one specific valley can be much different than traveling in another one so all tailor made journeys provide different experiences.
What is one travel trend that really excites you?
Authentic experience is luxury. I love the fact that the journeys are based on simple things that for local people are foregone. People who come here can enjoy the fresh drinkable water from natural sources, the silence and harmony of the forest and breathe its fresh air. Its a regenerating journey in touch with nature.
What sets Élite Dolomites apart from other, similar, organizations?
It is the ability to create unique tailor made journeys for each valleys and the knowledge of their characteristic. This allow us to be very flexible and to be able to adapt the journey on clients passions and desires.
We also love to collaborate with other travel consultants from other countries as point of reference on the Dolomites territory.
What is one insiders tip to getting the most out of an experiential travel vacation?
We do not overbook guests with experiences… less is more. I think it is very important to get deep into few experiences and than to take time to relax.
What is one strategy that has helped your business to grow?
The first strategy is to listen to my intuition and to try not to get stuck on my own ideas, to be aware of life changes and to listen to other people.
The second one is to communicate with customers using different tools but always with the same clarity and with coherence. The creation of the brand awareness is very important to me.
What is one personal habit that has helped you to be successful?
I never give up and I always try to find the way to make it work even if what I need to do is totally opposite of what I’ve done before. I take full responsibility of what happens inside and outside when its related to my job and to my life, it gives me the power to choose. I think another good asset is my ability to have good relationships with people.
Please share one instance where a guest had a moving or emotional reaction to the experience you provided to them.
Once I went on the top of Monte Cornon, in Fiemme Valley, with a german couple.
We stopped to have lunch in a hut, we ate a delicious pasta with alio, olio and peperoncino with good red wine before moving up to the top to enjoy the breathtaking panorama. During the 4 hours easy trekking tour we shared many thoughts, we established a beautiful friendship and still today we keep in touch. I’m sure they will not forget about that authentic experience.
