Philip Majerus is an irredeemable motorcycle touring enthusiast. He began riding in 1971 and has toured all of the U.S. many times. He has lived in and ridden every part the west for 40 years. Averaging 25k miles per year he encountered dozens of like-minded travelers and was awakened to the myriad successes and failures of motorcycle touring in ways few experience. From failures came successes. Less than desirable lodging lead to magical hidden resorts. Missed waypoints and attractions evolved into must-see nuggets of vistas, history, culture, and legend. Mundane routes inspired discovery of incredible less-traveled motorcycle paradises. These lessons were the genesis to design and develop the most elegant, relaxing, enjoyable tours available in the American Southwest. His touring wisdom is your insider ticket to scenic beauty, luxury resorts, local lore, and spiritual rejuvenation. His challenges become your rewards of unmatched customer services including baggage handling, bike fuel & cleaning, hospitality events, and generous amenities. He expects guests to do nothing more than saddle-up, ride, smile, and unwind. His passion to share the ultimate motorcycle touring experience brings couples and peers together for a once-in-a-lifetime journey of discovery and lasting memories.
How do the experiences you offer at Chrome Thunder give guests a unique perspective on the history, people or culture of the regions where you travel?
We have trained journey hosts who are schooled in the local culture and lore of the areas we pass through. We make frequent stops at scenic overlooks and speak to the incredible geology and landscapes on display. In addition, we also find our guests like to learn about the early settlers and pioneers of the American west and the challenges the terrain, weather, and inhabitants posed. Outlaw and gunslinger tales always draw a strong response from guest riders.
How have the experiences that you offer evolved since their inception?
We originally designed tours to arrive for meals and refreshments at colorful local cafes. Over time we learned that our guests greatly preferred stopping at remote vista points where our support vehicle serves coffee, refreshments and upscale lunches. This approach provides an opportunity to get off their bikes, stretch their legs and discuss the ride as well as to see the landscapes discussed in the topics listed above. This turns into a free flowing conversation of a variety of subjects that are of particular interest to our guests.
What is one detail of an experience you provide that may go unnoticed by guests, but which you feel is important?
The exclusive resorts we visit require reservations many months in advance to accommodate our limited groups of riders. We book no more than 8 rooms for guests which can be more than half of some properties visited. To reserve those rooms requires 8 to 24 months lead time.
What do you wish every guest knew as they consider participating in the experiences you offer?
The experience we offer focuses on riding couples. In addition, our unmatched knowledge of the most remote back roads and most spectacular landscapes punctuated with the luxury of the finest resorts in the west. Nothing is more satisfying than after a long day in the saddle to be welcome with a wine and cheese event at a five-star resort topped off with fine dining experience in paradise.
What is one travel trend that really excites you?
Custom designed touring is in demand. Elite travelers seek unique, one-of-a-kind experiences that create lifetime memories. We are soon to feature this capability on our website.
